Spanish IEPs

The Translations Unit does NOT cover Spanish IEPs due to a lack of resources. Please contact the Division of Special Education for exceptions or concerns.

Please note that per REF-1596.13 Oral Interpretation at an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team Meeting, issued by the Division of Special Education, Principals must make every effort to have appropriate bilingual (qualified by District standards) school site personnel trained, or otherwise eligible, to provide oral interpretation at IEP team meetings. Principals are also responsible for sending appropriate classified bilingual (qualified by District standards) school site personnel to the District’s IEP Oral Interpretation Training. Principals are required to complete and submit the School Roster of Staff Eligible to Interpret at IEP Team Meetings to the Division of Special Education by September 30th of each school year. Non-Spanish IEPs

The Translations Unit only covers Non-Spanish IEPs.

Please submit your request at least two weeks in advance.

Written IEPs

The Translations Unit does NOT translate written IEPs. Please contact the Division of Special Education.

Written translation of IEPs and related documents: Please see the link below for REF-6349.2 Submitting Requests for Written Translation of Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Related Documents, issued by the Division of Special Education. The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform school sites and District offices of the process to follow to submit a request for a written translation of an IEP document and/or related documents. Information regarding the translation of Section 504 Plans is also provided.

Written Assessments

The Translations Unit only translates the IEP assessments in Spanish

As a result of budget cuts and staff having changed to B basis, we can't guarantee the date when we will translate your assessment . You can still fill out a due date on our request form, but just be aware that we might not be able to meet your deadline.
We appreciate your understanding in these challenging times and know we are here to assist you even with our limited resources.
PDF, Fax or School Mail Assessments will no longer be accepted. Only Microsoft Word documents will be accepted.

* Engage parents in the schools, so they can participate in supporting school-wide, classroom, and parent involvement activities.

* Comply with all LAUSD, State, and Federal requirements regarding parent involvement.

Verbal Interpretation

Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpretation

The Translations Unit services the needs of parents in various languages to acquire necessary information, knowledge, and skills to support their children’s education at home and at school.

The Translations Unit offers both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and will be responsible for determining the most appropriate technique for your meeting. It is extremely important that you plan ahead and submit your meeting request(s) through our website with as much advance notice as possible

* We book our team weekly, so please submit your request two weeks in advance.

American Sign Language, ASL

ASL Services: Voicing; Trilingual (Spanish)-ASL; Level 4 and 5

We offer sign language coverage for parents, students, and/or employees.

* Please note, we do not cover recurring requests.
* We do not provide Close Captioning.

Wriiten Spanish Translations

Translations For LAUSD Documents and Assessments

Please note that because of limited resources as a result of budget cuts and a high volume of documents received for translation, we do not translate the documents listed below:

Birth Certificates, Passports, Medical Documents, Certificates, Diplomas, Transcripts, Report Cards, Copyrighted materials, Braille Translations.

For translation of international transcripts please view Bul-1545.1 Section V. part B.

Furthermore, due to liability concerns we do not proofread or edit documents translated outside of LAUSD.
